Today's recipe is Goan Sweet recipe . "Chana Doce"which is made from Chana Dal..
Here are the ingredients and method
Ingredients
1 & 1/2 cup of chana dal ,washed well & soaked for 5-6 hours in
3 cups of water
3 cups of grated coconut
2 cups of sugar
1 tsp of cardamom/elaichi powder
Salt to taste
Ghee as needed(around 3 tbsp)
Method
Cook the dal for 1 whistle on high & simmer for 10 mins..once cooled grind to a smooth paste ..also grind the coconut separately,no water has to be added while grindimg for both the dal or the coconut..Transfer the dal paste as well as the ground coconut to a heavy bottomed pan,stir continuously on a low to medium flame..add the sugar & cardamom powder..keep ,stirring well till the mixture leaves the sides of the pan add a few drops of
Ghee & stir..transfer the mixture to a greased tray flatten out the mixture as shown in the video..make the traditional design as shown in the video..cover & set aside for 10 hours to set..cut into diamond shapes..enjoy.
Tip:You can store the doce in an airtight container (glass/steel)keep it out in room temp in a dry cool place for a day after that refrigerate..when serving keep it out at room temp for 15 mins before serving…it has a long shelf life.
