Goan Prawn & Raw Mango Curry Recipe|Cooked in a cudnem/Goan clay pot
Today's recipe is one of my all time favourite curries which goes so well with fried fish ,pickle/balchao and some plain boiled veg as a side dish. This goan prawn & raw mango curry tastes better as it ages(do refrigerate it and it lasts for about a week)
Ingredients
1 small raw mango/kairi
4-5 dried red chillies
1 small onion sliced fine
2 green chillies cut into halves
1/2 cup of fresh coconut milk
1 tbsp corriander seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp of peppercorns
1/2 cup of deveined and cleaned fresh prawns
4 cloves of garlic chopped fine
oil for cooking 1-2 tbsp
Method
Grind the dried red chillies, cumin seeds, coriander seeds, peppercorns, use 1/4of the coconut milk..to a smooth paste.Add the garlic,1/4of the coconut milk and again grind to a very fine paste. Also retain the water from the mixer grinder after the ground paste is taken out,we want to be able to use all that flavour.
Also add the turmeric powder to the paste and mix well.
Heat oil in a pot,I like to use my Goan mud pot..
once the oil is hot add the green chillies and onions and fry well,Add the masala paste and fry the paste really well.Add the masala water & mix well.add the remaining coconut milk, mix well.
Adjust the water is if needed, that is add a little more if you need more gravy(2-3 tbsp)
add the raw mango, cut into pieces along with the batt or seed.
Add salt to taste and the prawns ,mix well and cover and cook for 5-7 mins til the prawns curl up and turn to a white, dense opaque colour and texture.
Delicious Goan Prawn and Raw mango curry is all ready ,enjoy this with some prawn chilly fry or balchao with Goa steamed rice.
Lots of love
